In 1979 Meikles took over the practice of Dawson, Arnott & Pickering, Barnard Castle, with offices at 38 Horsemarket. The firm has been well established for over 100 years and serves a thriving community.
We advise on all legal matters including conveyancing, probate, wills, family law, crime and general commercial matters. Partners at Barnard Castle also specialise in tax planning and agricultural matters.
John Roberts LL.B (Partner) graduated with a 2:1 Honours Degree from Newcastle University in 1971, commenced training as an Articled Clerk with the firm in 1972 and was admitted as a Solicitor in June 1975. Initially John worked at our Spennymoor office and became a partner in 1977 whilst working at our Ferryhill office. In 1979, when Meikles took over the practice of Dawson Arnott & Pickering, John moved to run the Barnard Castle office where he has remained since. John has a keen interest in agricultural and land law together with vast experience of wills, probate, inheritance tax planning and domestic and commercial conveyancing.
Claire Haigh LL.B (Partner) completed her training with Meikles, qualifying in June 2001. She has worked in all five of our offices during her time with the firm, gaining experience in a wide range of legal matters. Claire has a particular interest in family law and criminal law. She is a member of the Police Station Representatives Accreditation Scheme and the Darlington and South Durham Court Duty Solicitor schemes. Claire became a Partner in the firm in April 2008.
Vicky Johnson LL.B (Partner) graduated with a first class honours degree in law from Durham University and was awarded the Northumbrian Water Property Solutions prize by Northumbria University School of Law for Best LPC Conveyancing Student 2004. After gaining experience in our Spennymoor, Bishop Auckland and Ferryhill offices, she began her training contract with Meikles at Barnard Castle in 2004. Vicky works in the areas of family law, conveyancing, landlord and tenant, wills and probate and has a keen interest in the law relating to lasting powers of attorney and nursing home fees. Vicky became a partner in April 2008.
