We have had a solicitors practice in Ferryhill since the mid 1940s when Mr. C.F. Meikle initially rented rooms within the current premises, opening two days a week. As the business developed, the practice began operating five days a week and has continued to prosper to this day.
Our Ferryhill office maintains its prominent position in Ferryhill Market Place providing local people and businesses with assistance in all areas of law.
We are one of the few remaining firms in the area providing legal aid work in both family and criminal law. At Ferryhill we have solicitors on the Children Panel and also Accredited Criminal Duty Solicitors.

Lawrence Petterson LL.B (Partner) started out as an Articled Clerk with the firm in 1977 and has developed a busy legal practice serving the people in and around Ferryhill. Lawrence has remained at Ferryhill throughout that time and has an interest in many areas of law, including employment, personal injury, criminal and all areas of family law. Lawrence is a member of the Children Panel Accreditation Scheme, he is also a member of the Police Station Representatives Accreditation Scheme and is the Chairman of the Local Standards Committee of Sedgefield Borough Council.
Claire Coates LL.B (Partner) joined Meikles as a Trainee Solicitor in 1998. Claire is a member of the Children Panel Accreditation Scheme and Police Station Representatives Accreditation Scheme. Claire is experienced in many areas of law, but has a keen interest in family work, particularly children and domestic violence. Claire has qualifications in sign language.
Margaret McManners LL.B qualified in 1973. Margaret has long experience in various fields of law but now deals with non-contentious areas, including domestic, residential and commercial conveyancing, wills, trusts and probate law.
Karen Slack LL.B joined Meikles in 2006. Karen has a particular interest in prison law and crime in general, as well as other areas of law such as personal injury, family and domestic violence. Karen is also a member of the Police Station Representatives Accreditation Scheme.
